American River, North Fork - Generation and Giant Gaps (Tadpole to Colfax-Iowa Hill Road)

California-US

Description

The gaps are still expert runs but the river has calmed down some (compared to the Royal Gorge).  There is still plenty of class IV and V to be had in here so this run is still for advanced boaters.

Access into the gaps is part of what makes these runs tough.  Both generation and giant runs require trail hikes in and possibly out depending on how far you are going.  Some of the shuttles can take an aweful long time as well.  The Euchre bar access requires a longer shuttle from Tadpole so most boaters typiclly run both gaps together to make logistics easier.

Season on the North Fork is limited to the snowpack runoff so look at spring time or really wet winter weather to catch good flows for this.
